Lyman designs and manufactures Nomex and calender felts for textile compactors and sublimation calender press machines used in dyeing and finishing mills. In modern knitwear production, manufacturers must pre-shrink and stabilize knitted fabrics before garment making. Without this step, T-shirts, polo shirts, and similar apparel may shrink during laundering, leading to size inconsistency and quality complaints.
To address this requirement, Lyman develops endless compactor felts that actively generate controlled mechanical shrinkage and therefore function as true shrinking felts. Specifically, the system applies a shrinkage rate of 2% to 10% to both sides of the fabric by means of two consecutive endless felts. During operation, the felts work under heat (typically 110–160°C / 280–320°F) in combination with steam pressure. As a result, the process stabilizes fabric dimensions while simultaneously improving fabric hand feel and surface appearance.
Furthermore, for high-temperature heat-setting processes operating at 180–200°C (350–400°F), Lyman engineers high heat-resistant endless felts made from aramid fibers. Under these extreme conditions, the felts retain structural integrity, dimensional stability, and long service life. Consequently, manufacturers achieve reliable performance even in demanding thermal applications.
In addition, in certain markets, customers refer to compacting felts as Sanfor felts. Regardless of terminology, Lyman focuses on delivering consistent and measurable performance.
